Audiobooks Can Help Us Through Lockdown

Lockdowns are challenging and audiobooks and podcasts can make them easier by building a structured schedule for the day. Audiobooks also provide not only a screen light activity but also one that is relaxing and educational.

Navigating Lockdown with Audiobooks

Do you ever feel like you need more structure during lockdown?

As we continue to persevere through this challenging time, it is possible to feel isolated and alone. However, it is important to remember that many people are also going through very similar issues, as we are all going through this lockdown together. Having young children out of school participating in remote learning, and parents working from home, can be a hard balance to strike, but there are ways to make this process easier. Audiobooks and podcasts may be the key to unlock the solution you are looking for.

By integrating audiobooks into your child's everyday life, not only are you supplying an additional educational activity, but you are providing structure in a screen light way. With most of our time spent in the house, it becomes easy for each day to blur together, and this can be extremely overwhelming. With a set structure for your child, including all necessary daily activities, it becomes much easier to navigate the day, and audiobooks and podcasts can be the backbone of this structure. Here is an example of a typical year 1 homeschooling schedule, built around audiobooks. Feel free to modify this example in any way necessary to fit your personal needs.

Not only do audiobooks and podcasts provide structural benefits, but they are educational. Take advantage of this lockdown and have your child explore a topic that they want to learn about. Maybe it is connected to what they are doing in school, or maybe it is completely different. Regardless, audiobooks and podcasts can be an outlet for interest and imagination to meet. Also, audiobooks are a relaxing activity. Having young children sit in front of a screen all day can make them tired and stressed, but with audiobooks, you have an activity that is screen light, enjoyable, and gives the brain a chance to relax with a calm, quiet activity.
